1 2 3 Pune: A 31-year-old software professional sustained two fractures on his right hand after four unknown men beat him up on April 16 near Thergaon before robbing him. The victim on Thursday, April 17, filed a complaint with the Kalewadi police against the four men. The police registered a case under sections 309 (6) (robbery), 351 (2) (3) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insults with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An officer from the Kalewadi police said the complainant, who is a resident of Thergaon, works with a prominent software company in Hinjewadi. On Wednesday night, he went to Tapkir Mala Chowk to drop his friend. Around 10pm, when he was returning home, his motorcycle brushed a minor boy near Tapkir Mala.
"The man stopped to check whether the boy sustained any injuries. At this point, four men standing nearby approached him and started arguing with him for dashing the boy. They threatened him and demanded money," the officer said.
He said the four men beat him up. One of them snatched his cellphone and asked him to share his UPI password. When he refused, the men thrashed him with bamboo sticks.
He was forced to share the password, the officer said. "One of them checked the balance in the app and asked the victim to get more money," the officer said. He said the victim then contacted his friend to get additional Rs 15,000.
"The men then transferred Rs 19,000 from the victim's account to someone's UPI. They also took his cellphone worth Rs 20,000 and left after threatening the victim not to approach the police," he said. The officer said the victim went to a nearby pharmacy and sought help from his friends, who took him to a hospital in Thergaon.
"The victim has given the description of the suspects. Our investigations were underway," the officer said..
