Softball: Harleton falls to Overton in back-and-forth battle

The Overton Lady Mustangs (7-1, 5-0) handed the Harleton Lady Wildcats (4-11, 4-1) their first district loss in a 5-3 tight, back-and-forth battle.

The Overton Lady Mustangs (7-1, 5-0) handed the Harleton Lady Wildcats (4-11, 4-1) their first district loss in a 5-3 tight, back-and-forth battle. Skyler Colvin put Overton on the board first with a RBI-single. Harleton quickly tied the game at one all in the bottom of the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Kaylea Nealy.

A sacrifice bunt by Leighton Mcwhorter in the bottom of the third inning gave Harleton a 2-1 lead. A rocket line drive by Overton’s Bryleigh Nelson scored two runs to give the Lady Mustangs a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. A few errors by the Lady Mustangs allowed for Harleton to tie the game at three after Belle Green sprinted home.



Two line drives in the top of the seventh inning by Nelson and Kasha Williams gave Overton a 5-3 lead. With Harleton in prime position to walk it off, some faulty calls by the umpires on the base paths and at home plate did not favor the Lady Wildcats. Green pitched a solid game for Harleton going all seven innings allowing four earned runs, five total runs, nine hits and striking out 13 batters from giving up one walk.

She also went 1-3 at the plate with one run scored. Addison Morris collected three walks and Jessie Finley went 1-2 with a walk and a run. Kelsey Vaught secured the win for Overton pitching all seven innings while allowing two earned runs, three total runs and six hits while striking out 13 and walking five.

Nelson and Williams were the offensive stars for Overton. Nelson went 3-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Williams went 2-4 with one RBI.
