The Oklahoma Sooners earned a statement win on Wednesday night, beating Oklahoma State 11-3 in run-rule fashion. Despite being held scoreless for the first couple of innings and trailing by three after Oklahoma State extended their lead to 3-0, the Sooners erupted for 11 unanswered runs over the final three innings of the game to get the top 25 Bedlam win. The Sooners improved to 35-3 on the season and reasserted their dominance over the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
Kasidi Pickering kicked off the scoring with a two-run home run, and Maya Bland put the Sooners in front with a three-run home run. From there, Ella Parker and Gabbie Garcia each drove in a pair of runs to propel the Sooners to the run-rule victory. Sam Landry recorded her 100th strikeout of the season and moved to 12-2 on the year.
She allowed just one earned run in the outing and showed her resolve, recovering from a bases loaded, no-out jam in the top of the fourth inning to keep Oklahoma State from responding to Pickering's two-run home run in the previous half-inning. It was a huge performance on a record-setting night in which Oklahoma and Oklahoma State drew the largest crowd ever for a regular season game. The sport of softball is thriving and on Wednesday night, we were treated with a fantastic game.
