Neymar is reportedly close to cutting ties with his current club amid reports he has agreed to sign for a new side. According to Brazilian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the skilful attacker is on the verge of terminating his contract with Saudi Pro League champions Al Hilal. The 32-year-old has been plagued by injuries since signing for the Riyadh-based club, with a torn ligament in his knee and now a hamstring issue limiting him to only seven appearances across all competitions for the Blue Wave.
He recently returned from to fitness to face Pitso Mosimane’s Esteghlal FC in the AFC Champions League, but Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer suffered a fresh setback that will once again keep him sidelined. This has led to rumours suggesting that the decorated forward is set to leave Al Hilal and has already agreed to make the move back to his boyhood club Santos. The Mogi das Cruzes native is regarded as a legend for the Peixe, having won their first Copa Libertadores title in 48 years and even managing to finish fifth in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2013 while playing for the Brazilian giants.
Merlo claims that the announcement of Neymar’s arrival will happen once Santos’ campaign in the second division comes to an end. However, The agent of the ex-Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, Pini Zahavi, has, claimed that there are no talks happening between Al Hilal about a termination of his contract. Merlo, however, insists that the deal will come to fruition and Neymar will return to his native Brazil sooner rather than later.
