As previously reported by the Siya crew, Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have opted against renewing the contract of veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune. Indications are that, with the former Bafana Bafana shot-stopped still eager to continue his playing career, Sekhukhune United has shown interest, with sources revealing that Amakhosi have given the 37-year-old the freedom to explore this opportunity. Siya sources have suggested that Khune may not be ready to leave his childhood club for another team, and it is understood that negotiations for a new role within the club's structures are still underway.

"The current situation suggests that he will stay. Yes, he wanted to continue playing, but there were factors to consider, such as a potential decrease in financial benefits and salary. After evaluating these aspects, it was deemed more suitable for him to accept the ambassador and marketing department position.

He won't continue playing and it seems he has come to terms with this, and his representatives are satisfied with the new role at the club. He is staying, that much I can tell you," a source informed the Siya crew. Khune has also taken up a role as an analyst at the SABC, which likely signals a move away from active professional play.

"The club has given him the green light to do game analysis at SABC because he is no longer an active professional player. He will be working with the team's marketing department and serving as the club's ambassador, which allows him the flexibility to work at SABC during games. He has a strong understanding with Chiefs, and the club consistently supports him in his other endeavours," the source revealed.
