Benni MCarthy, as confirmed by his agent Rob Moore, has been in talks with an unnamed MLS Club, for the last two weeks as he looks to take the next step in his career following his departure from Manchester United. Rob Moore, who has been representing McCarthy for the bulk of his career informed the Siya crew that talks have been escalating between the 46-year-old and an unnamed club, though insiders have explained that the club in question is in fact St Louis City, who are currently without a head coach since the departure of another South African in Bradley Carnell. The former Bafana Bafana left-back was the club’s first coach since it’s inception into the MLS in 2022, and he succeeded in his first season with the club, leading them to the Eastern conference Championship.

He would go on to struggle in his second campaign with the club, which ultimately led to his departure. McCarthy’s agent has backed him to succeed in the MLS if he were to make the move. “The MLS is also obviously an interesting market going forward particularly with America hosting the World Cup and the growth of the game in the in America.

You know, so that will be of interest as well," Moore told the Siya crew. “So obviously Brad Carnell did a really good job last year at St Louis, this year was a bit more of a challenge, but it was always gonna be more of a challenge because it's often more difficult second and third year around. I don't see Brad as having failed at all in the MLS.

I think all the challenges he faced this year were always gonna be there, and his success last year was really phenomenal. And so it's a league that's where South African coaches done well in my opinion. And so that also would be a league that would be interesting for Benni.

And we are in a discussion with the club that is placed in the MLS. “I'm 100% confident that Benni can succeed there. I mean, if you look at the MLS at the moment, approximately 65% of the coaches who are currently holding head coach positions in the MLS, it’s first time in their careers that they are holding these positions.

That's a very, very high number of relatively inexperienced head coaches who have been given jobs in the MLS as a head coach. “You can't tell me a person like Benni who's had the experience of being a head coach at two clubs, who's won trophies, who's basically created things against all the odds at AmaZulu, which has subsequently been proved that since he's left that what he did there was a miracle, and then he added that with the experience of working with one of the three richest and biggest clubs in in the world. You can't tell me that he couldn't go to a league like MLS and not do well, of course he can," he explained.
