Brits should prepare for cold weather as 2025 is due to get off to a freeing start. From Wednesday 1 January at 6pm, large swathes of the UK will see either rain or snow . In Scotland and the north of England, up to 10cm of snow could fall per hour, show maps from WXCHARTS.
Much of England’s east coast will see rain with up to 3mm per hour of rainfall expected. The only areas to be unaffected on Wednesday 1 January’s wet and snowy weather include most of south Wales and most of the south west with some of the Midlands also escaping the wintry conditions . By Friday 3 January, at 12 noon, snowy weather will continue.
Most of the UK will see some snow with parts of Scotland and northern England to be most heavily impacted. In some parts of England there is as much as 25cm of snowfall expected. Down towards the midlands, less than 5cm of snowfall is expected to hit the area.
As for the south, on Friday 3 January, maps show no snow or rain to hit the area meaning conditions should be dry. By Monday 6 January at 6am, the most snowfall is forecasted with large proportions of the country likely to see snow. The only areas likely to escape the snowfall are the south west, Liverpool and parts of Wales.
Most places will see less than 5cm of snowfall but parts of northern England could see as much as 25cm. While there was no white Christmas declared for 2025, Brits should expect a snowy start to the New Year with temperatures set to drop. The Met Office 5 day weather forecast says: “Wet and windy weather clearing southeast from England and Wales on Wednesday.
“A widely colder end to the week. Lots of sunshine, but wintry showers, with overnight frost and ice.”.
