SNEPCo bags ‘Major Oil Company of the Year 2024’ award

Former MD honoured as ‘Amazon of Nigeria’s Oil Sector’Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has been recognised as the Major Oil Company of the Year 2024 by Energy Times, a leading publication covering the energy sector.The accolade was awarded in recognition of SNEPCo’s sustained contribution to the growth of deep-water oil and gas development in Nigeria, as well as its broader impact on the energy industry.The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by SNEPCo’s Communications Manager, Mrs Gladys Afam-Anadu.



In the same vein, Energy Times also bestowed the title Amazon of Nigeria’s Oil Sector 2024 on Mrs Elohor Aiboni, former Managing Director of SNEPCo, who is currently on an international posting in Brunei.Both awards were presented to SNEPCo’s Senior Operations Manager, Mrs Bolanle Odunayo-Ojo, who accepted them on behalf of the company’s Managing Director, Mr Ronald Adams, during a ceremony held in Lagos. The event drew attendance from prominent stakeholders across the oil and gas sector.

“We are deeply honoured to receive these awards, which affirm our commitment to excellence in upstream operations,” Odunayo-Ojo said in the statement.She credited the company’s achievements to strong collaboration and teamwork, particularly with partners such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and various regulatory bodies.“These recognitions reinforce our resolve to continue advancing innovation and progress in Nigeria’s energy sector,” she added.

SNEPCo is regarded as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas exploration. The company commenced production from the Bonga field in 2005, marking the country’s first deep-water development. Gas produced from Bonga is also supplied to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) on Bonny Island.

Over the years, SNEPCo has led several major discoveries, including Bonga Southwest in 2001 and Bonga Northwest, which began production on 5 August 2014.In presenting the award, the Board of Directors of Energy Times acknowledged the continued success of the Bonga project, citing the production of its one billionth barrel of oil in February 2023 and the recent Final Investment Decision on the $5 billion Bonga North development.The honour bestowed on Mrs Aiboni reflects a distinguished career that spans multiple leadership and technical roles both within Nigeria and internationally.
