New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman fell victim to bike-borne snatchers near east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar and lost her bag a few days ago. However, her ordeal did not end there. The woman apparently managed to trace her bag’s location using the pair of AirPods which were connected with her phone and requested police to retrieve it.

However, she allegedly received a cold response and was asked to accompany two policemen to Loni to retrieve her bag. The woman and the cops faced resistance from irate locals of the area and had to flee from the spot to save themselves. The woman has released a video detailing the sequence of events.

The incident occurred on Aug 21 when the woman, a resident of Mayur Vihar, was travelling to ITO from Laxmi Nagar. The bag contained valuables, including a laptop, AirPods, ATM cards, keys and jewellery. “I immediately called 112 and reached Sakarpur police station to file an FIR.

My earphones were connected to my phone, and their location could be traced, which I informed the investigating officer,” Tanya Pant, the victim, said. “In the evening, the location was found in Loni, Ghaziabad. The IO said I could go with two constables.

Upon reaching the location, the locals gathered and threatened us. The constables were in civilian dress, so they couldn’t help us, and we had to escape from there. Later, I was told that the snatchers had crossed the borders of Delhi, and police did not have permission to go there,” she alleged.

On Aug 22, around 6 pm, the location changed to Baghpat, where it remained stable until around 9:30 pm, after which the AirPods were reset. The woman said she was called to the police station to identify the snatchers by viewing the CCTV footage. “I identified the snatchers, and police also recognised them as habitual offenders who had committed a snatching around 10-15 days ago on a different bike, wearing the same clothes and the same helmet,” the victim further stated in the video.

Police said they were looking into the matter.
