Less than a year ago, Amanda Smith was a high school student. Today she is preparing medical instruments for physicians and surgeons at Albany Medical Center thanks to the Sterile Processing Technician program at Capital Region BOCES. The Class of 2024 graduate was hired as a sterile processing technician at Albany Medical Center because of her work-based learning experience at the hospital.
Sterile processing technicians decontaminate, inspect, package and sterilize equipment and devices used in the healthcare environment. These items range from complex devices to simple, hand-held surgical instruments. (Photo provided).
