SOMERS — Snap-on Incorporated was honored by the University of Wisconsin System and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday afternoon. The Kenosha-headquartered company was recognized with the 2024 Board of Regents Business Partnership Award for years of support for Parkside. “Snap-on is an extraordinary company,” said Universities of Wisconsin president Jay Rothman.

Rothman said many of the graduates from state universities work at Snap-on and many students intern there. “UW-Parkside is fortunate to have a company like Snap-on embedded in the community and such a vital partner,” he said. Newly installed Parkside Chancellor Lynn Akey said the company has had a “profound and lasting impact” on the Parkside community.

“Snap-on’s legacy of support for UW-Parkside dates back to the beginning of our university, a partnership built on shared values and commitment to excellence in education and workforce development,” she said. “Over the years, this partnership has grown and evolved and touched countless lives.” She highlighted scholarships provided by Snap-on’s support for the Future Focus Fund, the school’s largest need-based scholarship and emergency aid fund.

“In just five years, this fund has awarded more than $568,000 dollars to support over 442 students,” Akey said. “Many of the recipients of the Future Focus Fund are seniors without that crucial support might not be able to cross that stage and graduate.” Regent and former Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser, a Parkside alumnus, presented Snap-on with the award.

“I never left town. I know as much as anyone how important Snap-on Incorporated and UW-Parkside are to this area. But for UW-Parkside, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to stand before you today,” Kreuser said.

“It was my opportunity for higher education and I grabbed on with both hands. It led me down a very good path in life that I got to choose for myself. Snap-on Incorporated has been here almost 100 years.

It’s been around longer than I have and (has seen) Kenosha’s up and a few downs. They doubled down on Kenosha and invested in our community.” Snap-on Incorporated director of communications Michael Bond said the company is devoted to Kenosha and benefits from Parkside students.

“We are proud to have supported Parkside through the decades,” Bond said. Snap-on Incorporated is a global manufacturer and marketer of tools, equipment, diagnostics, repair information and systems solutions for professionals. Founded in 1920, Snap-on is a $4.
