“Local authorities are the third tier of government and are the closest to the people.“As councillors, we are the policy makers of our municipality. We also work with council staff to ensure that the council delivers.
“We must take time to understand the needs, challenges, and aspirations of our community, and bring them forth to the monthly meetings.“With every decision made, every policy passed, and every conversation held in this chamber, we shape the future of our community,” he emphasized.A total of 28 SMC councillors took their oath of office before Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government.
Of the 28, six are new faces while the rest were re-appointed, including Ting’s deputy Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.Ting also urged the councillors to honour their promises to the public and deliver on them in a timely manner to gain and maintain the community’s trust.“Trust is the foundation of good governance.
In other words, what we say we deliver ― and deliver in good time for the public.“Only then can councillors receive constructive feedback and build trust with the public. Openness with the public will lead to civic trust and community cooperation,” he added.
