HAMMOND — Southeastern Louisiana University will host the Director of the Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort, Alabama, Dr. Michael Bunn, who will deliver the sixth annual J. Y.
Sanders Research Scholar lecture. The presentation is part of the annual meeting of the Southeast Louisiana Historical Association on April 16 and will be held at the Alumni Center, located at 500 W. University Ave.
, beginning at 6 p.m. “Mike Bunn’s research has done a great deal to advance understanding of the curious development of the Gulf Coastal region and its unique connection to the American Revolution,” said Samuel Hyde, director of the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies and host of the event.
“His book, ‘The Fourteenth Colony,’ highlights flawed interpretations of our region from the past, and his presentation on April 16 will add another layer of clarity to our understanding of regional development.” Bunn’s lecture, “The Orleans Territory: Louisiana Between Colony and State,” is the product of his tenure as Sanders Research Scholar, an annual award presented jointly by the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies and the Young Sanders Center. Tickets are $15, include a catered dinner, cocktail reception and admission to the presentation and can be purchased in advance or at the door the evening of the event.
