Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Presidential Candidate and MP Namal Rajapaksa emphasised yesterday that he had the strength and self-confidence to run for the Presidential Election this year even though many people have challenged it is not possible for him to run for the Presidential Election. Stating that he accepted the challenge without fear, since he has the self-confidence and strength to do so, standing on his feet and doing his work for the country and the people with the inspiration he received from his father Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said this while participating in the rally held yesterday in Tissamaharama town to confirm the victory of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the Presidential Election.

The rally was held under the patronage of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. During our election campaign, we went to every seat in Sri Lanka and met our party members. Today has reached its last day.

As a political force that worked in this country, President Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to end the war that had been going on for about thirty years in this country. The terrorists even reached the South. He eliminated terrorism and brought freedom.

Before 2005, Hambantota district was known as a low-income district among the poorest districts in Sri Lanka with the lowest level of education and least infrastructure. But today we have got the opportunity to transform our district as not only a developed district in Sri Lanka but also as a naval and aviation hub in Asia. “In terms of education, there is progress similar to that of Colombo among the children of our district.

Hambantota was connected to the port by building highways. Mattala Airport and Katunayake Airport were also connected. We also had a plan to construct the expressway from Hambantota to Batticaloa.

In the next 15 years, when Sri Lanka provides services to 80 million people by air and sea, Hambantota district will become a hub. This district is ready for a massive economic transformation with the industrial zone centered on the Hambantota port, the information technology village centered on Suriyawawa, and the airport centered on providing services to airline companies,” he said. “Unfortunately, many people who were in the good governance government did not understand this.

They thought Mattala Airport was built to store paddy. Suriyawewa Stadium was closed by them. Construction of the buildings of the IT park were closed in the middle.

The port was sold to scavengers. It was sold because there was no plan. Maha Sangha was beaten by the forgoing to save the port.

But we had a plan. We had a programme to create 100,000 jobs in Hambantota district. There were plans to create ten thousand jobs in the IT sector.

After the good governance government came to power, re-exports were prioritised. The Rajapaksa government always prioritised the farmer over the businessman. Arrangements were made to provide a fixed price to the products of farmers”.

“On the other hand, the necessary program was prepared to develop the fishing industry. We do politics with a vision and plan. We also had a plan to develop Hambantota district as a district with a strong cultural value.

We also had a plan to develop tourism. But if we went to open new hotels, we were accused. We did not flinch at the accusations.

But we had faith that the people of this country would understand us. We will work with a vision and a plan in the government that we will form in the future. We don’t need to be slandered on the political stage.

We are principled. “We have a plan. We will provide a sustainable solution to the elephant problem and will not try to inconvenience the people.

We are working to protect the fisherman, the worker and the businessman. We have always built with local thinking. We have a responsibility to protect the left political force and progressive camps.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is the only one that is committed to protecting the progressive political camp among the candidates running for this year’s presidential election. We are not ready to switch sides in opportunistic politics for bounties and privileges. We are not ready to change the policies,”he said.
