The “main threat from any severe storms appears to be a damaging wind gusts and isolated hail threat which may cause tree or power line damage,” the National Weather Service said in a weather briefing. It added “While the environment does not favor widespread tornadoes or significant hail, there’s potential for a few storms to produce large hail or a tornado.
” The cold front is forecast to approach the area Monday afternoon with the potential of severe storms ahead of it. According to the NWS, the worst of the storms for Orangeburg could arrive between 8 p.m.
Monday through 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The chance of severe storms for Orangeburg is between 15 percent and 29 percent, according to the NWS. The NWS said uncertainty exists on the progression of the line of storms as they move across the Deep South. Contact the writer: gzaleski@timesanddemocrat.
