Excelsior Correspondent Srinagar, Dec 30: With its Engineering Division under the control of the R&B Department, SKIMS Soura established a dedicated engineering control room to ensure the prompt restoration of essential services at the hospital during inclement weather. Officials told Excelsior that during the recent snowfall, SKIMS authorities introduced a unique model by setting up a separate engineering control room to address and monitor service disruptions caused by the weather. This innovative mechanism, officials said, played a vital role in ensuring smooth and uninterrupted patient care services at the hospital.

It facilitated the swift restoration of electricity, immediate road clearance, rectification of heating systems, and the efficient functioning of UPS backup and IT services, officials said. “The aim was to ensure that patient care remained unaffected and services continued seamlessly. At the same time, the separate control room enabled us to respond to emergencies promptly.

” Notably, the control room system worked in close coordination with the existing hospital control rooms at both SKIMS and SKIMS MC&H, Bemina. It is worth mentioning that the abrupt snowfall-which was unanticipated in Kashmir’s plains-disrupted major services across the city and caught many, including the Government, off guard. SKIMS officials noted that the hospital’s Engineering Division, which includes Mechanical, Electrical, and IT Departments, is under the R&B Department’s jurisdiction and required a robust mechanism to ensure uninterrupted operations.

“Considering this, SKIMS Soura, under the supervision and directions of Director SKIMS Prof. Mohd Ashraf Ganie, acted swiftly to establish a separate Engineering Control Room to maintain uninterrupted services,” officials said. The SKIMS authorities emphasized that this model-given its efficiency and utility in healthcare facilities-could be adopted by other hospitals across Kashmir to enhance patient care services during challenging circumstances.
