St. Joseph's Kona Castillo erased six match points for Clovis Buchanan's Tatum Custer Tuesday. Custer broke through on match point No.
7 on Castillo's serve and clinched a 5-4 win over for No. 11 Buchanan over No. 6 St.
Joseph at the St. Joseph courts in the first round of the CIF Central Section Division 1 Playoffs. Caster won the No.
4 singles match 6-3, 6-3. Buchanan edged St. Joseph 5-4 in a scrimmage before the teams began their respective seasons.
Autumn Smith gave Buchanan a big boost Tuesday with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3 (10-3) win over Charlotte Dillon in the No. 5 singles match. With St.
Joseph's Mia Parker playing on an injured ankle, Buchanan with a three hour drive back home ahead and the Bears having clinched the match, the coaches agreed to call the No. 3 singles match with Parker leading Nora Callister 6-0, 2-1. The final score in the Central Section brackets was listed as Buchanan 5, St.
Joseph 4. With Custer and Autumn Smith winning at No. 1 doubles, and Aubrey Smittcamp and Brooke Brandt winning at No.
3, the Bears took a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match. Custer, at No. 4 singles, Smith, at No.
5, and Autumn Fowler, at No. 6, broke through and that was enough for the Bears. Parker and Karli Hunter gave the Knights their doubles point with an 8-2 win at No.
2. Alina Morales, at No. 1 singles, and Mikaleigh Dougherty, at No.
2, won in straight sets for the Knights in singles. Buchanan (15-7) will play at No. 3 Bakersfield Stockdale in the quarterfinals.
In the Central Section playoffs, the higher seed is the host team in each round. St. Joseph finished 11-5.
Division 2 Santa Ynez 9, Righetti 0 The No. 1 Pirates rolled past the No. 16 Warriors in the first round.
Santa Ynez singles players Keegan Withrow, Haley Townes, Kate Mazza, Natalie O'Shaghnessy, Danielle Hyland and Violet Quinney all won in straight sets, dropping 12 games between them. Hyland, at No. 5, and Quinney, at No.
6, did not lose a game. O'Shaughnessy won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
Withrow and Townes teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles, and Mazza and O'Shaughnessy won at No. 2.
Claire Tipich and Ainlsey Haws took the No. 3 doubles match for the Pirates. Santa Ynez will host No.
8 Fresno Justin Garza Thursday in the quarterfinals. A start time had not been set at press time. In other Division 2 action involving Central Coast Athletic Association (CCAA) teams, No.

16 Bearcats at Lompoc in the first round. Rianna Stouppe, Mia Jansen, Gabi Arias and Emma White did not lose a game in singles or doubles. Stouppe and Jansen won 6-0, 6-0 at No.
1 doubles. Arias and Whtie did the same at No. 2.
Stouppe, Arias, Jansen and White all got through their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0. Lola Soukup did the same at No. 6 singles.
