Ireland, Scotland and France were the three victorious teams during the opening weekend of Six Nations action, with England, Italy and Wales having got off to a losing start. England, after taking the lead in Dublin, had been in the game for large periods and looked well set to challenge for a result before a determined Ireland offensive line picked them off in the second half to secure a relatively comfortable 27-22 win. It wasn't the battering some had been expecting for England, with the weekend's big loss reserved for the under-pressure Wales.
They were never in the game against France, who were ahead 28-0 at the break, before blitzing Warren Gatland's side in the second period to finish with a 43-0 win. Meanwhile, Scotland's Championship hopes got off to a strong start as they beat wooden spoon contenders Italy 31-19 in Edinburgh, and snatch a precious bonus point to go with the win. It's a quick turnaround for all six teams, as matchday two is on the horizon next weekend, with Italy vs Wales, England vs France and Scotland vs Ireland to look forward to.
