Gurgaon: Vijay Kumar Dhaka became the MCG chief engineer on Saturday, succeeding Manoj Yadav, an electrical engineer, and restoring a civil engineer to the top role after more than a year. Dhaka stated that engineers must conduct site visits before preparing development project estimates and proposals. He added that the engineering department would be held accountable for ensuring high-quality road construction, with no tolerance for negligence.

"I'll ensure that engineers take ownership of their work. Laxity won't be tolerated. While technical errors can be corrected, complete absence of effort is unacceptable," said Dhaka, who holds a BTech from MDU Rohtak (2001) and an MTech from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (2005).

He further directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on last year's waterlogging issues and the steps taken to address them. Their recommendations will be reviewed to prevent similar problems this year. "Engineers will conduct site inspections to develop accurate estimates, considering specific road conditions.

Roads affected by waterlogging will be assessed separately from those without drainage issues to maintain high construction standards," he told TOI. Ensuring quality road construction has been a persistent challenge for the civic body, especially after multiple road samples failed quality tests over the past two years. Recently, MCG commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg urged RWAs to submit written complaints if they suspected poor road construction.

Under this initiative, officials will collect road samples in the presence of RWAs and contractors to ensure transparency in testing. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Navratri Wishes , Eid Messages and quotes !.
