11. DUI • A 30-year-old Centralia man was arrested for DUI and a hit-and-run in the 100 block of East Sixth Street just before 9:45 p.m.
on Dec. 11. CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT Criminal trespass • Two subjects were warned for camping in the underpass at North National Avenue at approximately 8:29 a.
m. on Dec. 11.
They were directed to the cold weather shelter. • A resident in the 300 block of Southeast Valley View Way reported that a man was trying to sleep under their deck at 12:35 a.m.
on Dec. 12. The resident reported that he “had a blanket with him” and that they “ran him off.
” Harassment • Just after 8:30 a.m. on Dec.
11, a parent reported their son was threatened at Chehalis Middle School in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street with a knife a few weeks prior. Officers determined no crime had occurred and the incident has been handled by the school. • A client at a facility in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue reportedly threatened staff as he was leaving just after 10:30 a.
m. on Dec. 11.
He has been trespassed from the facility for life. DUI • Just after 10:10 a.m.
on Dec. 11, a caller in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue called to report a “possible DUI that will occur tomorrow around midnight,” involving a driver the caller said had committed a DUI 69 times previously. Hit-and-run • A hit-and-run was reported in the 400 block of Northeast Washington Avenue at 5:25 p.
m. on Dec. 11.
Suspicious circumstances • A man was reportedly “lurking around the windows” of an apartment building at the intersection of Southwest Chehalis Avenue and Southwest Third Street just after 1:30 a.m. on Dec.
12. • Suspicious circumstances reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:25 a.m.
on Dec. 12 are under investigation. FIRE AND EMS CALLS • Between Wednesday morning and Friday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 40 illness-related calls, 19 injury-related calls, six fire-related calls, 13 non-emergency service calls, four vehicle accidents, two overdoses, one hazardous conditions report, one department assist request and one pregnancy-related call.

Mahoney , 70, of Centralia, filed a motion on Sept. 13 to withdraw a guilty plea he submitted in August 2023 to one count of first-degree rape of a child and two counts of first-degree child molestation. He argued that he pleaded guilty due to “ineffective assistance of counsel and coercion.
” He was sentenced in September 2023 to 162 months in jail and a lifetime on probation. An evidentiary hearing for the motion is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2025.
JAIL STATISTICS • As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 143 inmates, including 130 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 105 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
