Vadodara: A series of cave-ins have appeared in the Productivity Road area of the city. The area is prone to sinkholes on roads, and the development has led to concerns among those with businesses on the road. The road has large drainage lines under it, and these are believed to be the cause of the cave-ins.
The first two cave-ins took place on Sunday, and another came to light on Monday. Akota MLA Chaitanya Desai rushed to the area to check on what had happened and took up the matter with Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials. This issue has plagued the area for two decades.
Despite repeated efforts, VMC has not been able to eliminate the problem. It had also laid a pipeline in the area using micro-tunnelling technology instead of digging trenches, but the cave-ins still take place. Usually, leaks in pipelines under roads cause such sinkholes.
That has not been the case with this area..
