The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable , over allegations of criminal defamation and other related offences. The arrest was carried out on Saturday, April 13, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following a petition filed by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, also known in entertainment circles as Osupa .
The development was disclosed in an official statement released Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin, the state capital. According to the statement, the allegations against Portable include criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language. “In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin,” the police said.
Operatives of the Kwara Command subsequently proceeded to Abeokuta, where the singer was arrested at approximately 7:25 p.m. He was immediately transported to Ilorin for further investigation.
“The suspect’s statement has since been obtained in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody, and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay,” the statement added. The police emphasized their commitment to due process and the rule of law, urging the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation as the investigation continues.
