Singanpor couple cheated of Rs 13 lakh in visa fraud

Surat: The Singanpor police have booked two women from Ahmedabad for allegedly cheating a couple of Rs 13 lakh by promising them a visa to the UK. The couple was asked to make online payments to different people and also in cash. However, after receiving the money, the accused failed to secure their visa.

According to details, Singanpor resident and textile trader Vimal Pumbhadiya (30) attended a friend's marriage in Rajkot seven months ago. He met one of the invitees, Vaishali Vaja (Patel), at the marriage, who claimed to be a visa agent. Pumbhadiya expressed his desire to go to the UK with his wife, Saloni.



Vaja assured him of passport and visa processing. After a few days, Vaja came to Surat and consulted Pumbhadiya. She informed him that there would be Rs 12 lakh in expenses for visa and passport processing for the UK.

Pumbhadiya provided her with documents such as his Aadhaar card, PAN card, RC book of his car, marriage certificate, and passport-size photos, along with an advance payment of Rs 2.50 lakh. After a few days, he gave her Rs one lakh in Ahmedabad.

The accused called Pumbhadiya to Goa after a few days for the visa process. Upon reaching Goa, Pumbhadiya gave her an additional Rs 90,000. At that time, Vaja told him that as the visa process involved different persons, he needed to transfer money as per her instructions.

Vaja provided him with different mobile numbers and asked him to transfer various amounts via Gpay. Consequently, he transferred a total of Rs 6.42 lakh to different people during May and June 2024 via Gpay.

Subsequently, Pumbhadiya was called for an event in Daman. He was asked to give Rs two lakh more, which he handed over in cash to Vaja's mother, Rekha, in Daman. After giving a total of Rs 12.

82 lakh in cash and online, when Pumbhadiya asked for the visa and other procedures, Vaja gave various excuses and failed to provide the assured service. Therefore, he filed a cheating complaint with Singanpor police on Nov 13..
