Avocados, packed with vitamins , minerals, healthy fats and fibre, are a powerhouse for your diet but are notoriously quick to spoil – they can turn to mush before you've even left the shop. It's worth giving them a squeeze when you buy to gauge their ripeness and select one that suits when you plan to eat it. Yet, keeping them fresh at home is no easy task; blink and you might find an inedible, squished green mess.

And what happens when you only need half? The remainder often goes bad before you get another chance to use it. But fear not! An ingenious avocado enthusiast has devised a savvy workaround to extend the life of this nutrient-dense, yet often expensive fruit, meaning it's available whenever your heart desires. A woman shared her smart storage solution on the Delish Recipes Family Facebook page, showing how she freezes avocado in nifty little mashed-up balls.

Describing her hack, she revealed on Kidspot: "I've started freezing avocado!" She elaborates: "I mash them up and I use a small cookie scoop then freeze! Yep, that's right. You can freeze avocado, ready to be transformed into guacamole, smoothies or a spread at a moment's notice." A woman has shared her simple yet effective method for preserving avocados, claiming: "They don't turn brown AT ALL and when they firm up in a few hours I throw them in a big ziplock bag.

I don't add anything to them." She revealed her successful trick prevents waste as the avocados thaw easily and she usually freezes about two bags at a time, encouraging others to "Try it!!". After sharing her technique online, many were quick to praise the hack: "Great way to use them in smoothies!" one user commented.

"I'm going to try this trick!" another decided, while a third exclaimed: "This is brilliant!" The tip was particularly helpful to one member who said: "Such a wonderful tip! Thanks. I am the only person who likes avocados in our house! This is a great tip to use up those I sometimes lose." More advice came from Kidspot's Kitchen editor, who gave additional pointers to ensure the success of the avocado-preserving method.

She recommended using just ripe avocados, as over-ripe ones can become too mushy. To maintain their colour, she suggested a spritz of lemon or lime juice before freezing, and storing them in an airtight bag to keep them well-preserved in the freezer for about a month, though she advised using them immediately after they're defrosted..
