Silverstone Museum has announced a series of activities and new exhibits for the month. The museum, which is shining a spotlight on the importance of safety in motorsport, will kick off April with exclusive exhibits and family-friendly attractions during the Easter holidays. As part of the Easter celebrations, it will mark racing team JOTA's 25th anniversary with a display of Le Mans-winning cars, one of the first Aston Martin Formula 1 safety cars, and numerous free educational activities.
Visitors will have the opportunity to build and decorate their own safety helicopter and test its flight using elastic power. The museum will also display the remains of David Purley's LEC CRP1, the car involved in one of the most dramatic crashes in motorsport history, which occurred during pre-qualifying for the 1977 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The car struck the bank at approximately 110mph, subjecting the driver to 178.
8G - one of the highest impact forces ever survived by a human being. Phil Lawrie, CEO of Silverstone Museum, said: "This April we are delighted to welcome four storied Le Mans-winning cars to the museum in an exclusive exhibition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of leading British sportscar outfit Team JOTA. "This unique, stunning showcase gives visitors the incredibly rare chance to see these high-performance machines up close.
“It’s an opportunity to experience the history, innovation, and passion of JOTA’s journey as our exhibition pays tribute to the team’s successful achievements in motorsport at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans." The museum will also host several hands-on activities for families throughout the Easter holidays. Visitors can take part in the Top Trumps trail and go wheel-to-wheel on the Scalextric attraction.
As well as learning about the role of safety in motorsport, families can compete on the museum's Grand Prix Scalextric attraction, which recreates the Silverstone Formula 1 circuit. They can also drive the circuit and other racetracks from around the world in the museum's state-of-the-art racing simulator arena. The exclusive Silverstone Legends Top Trumps pack is available in the museum shop, showcasing motor racing heroes through the decades.
Visitors can claim their free Super Top Trump from the ticket desk on arrival and follow the Top Trumps trail around the museum to find hidden cards along the way. Mr Lawrie added: "The exhibition is one of several new attractions for 2025 at the museum, where we pride ourselves on presenting a world-class experience that offers something fresh throughout the year.".
