However, she’s not. The latest Siena poll shows most of her top budget proposals with favorability ratings above 50%, however, Hochul carries a 39% favorability rating two years before re-election. Approximately 803 respondents were contacted between Jan.

27 and Jan. 30. “All 10 [proposals] have support,” said SCRI pollster Steven Greenburg.

“Eight of them have majority support. Four of them have overwhelming bipartisan majority support. But that does not translate to an improved job approval rating or an improved favorability rating from the governor.

There is a disconnect.” It’s not certain if the potential implementation of her so-called affordability agenda will improve that score following an election last fall where economic-focused issues are believed to have played a critical role in Republican Donald Trump’s second ascent to the White House. In her fiscal year 2026 executive budget, Hochul’s proposal for universal school meals has 77% support; her proposal to increase the average child tax credit has 62% support; her so-called inflation refund check proposal has 56% support.

Only two top proposals — $1 billion in spending against climate change and banning private equity firms from bidding on homes during the first 75 days they are on the market — carry less than 50% favorability. They both come in at 48% in favor. 3 poll numbers to know Here are some of the other highlights from the poll: u 50% of respondents believe that New York is headed in the wrong direction and even more — 55% — believe that the United States is headed in the wrong direction.

u Trump faces his highest SCRI approval rating, which is still less than a majority of respondents: 41% . The partisan divide is stark, 83% of Republicans find him favorable and 81% of Democrats find him unfavorable. u Most respondents — 79% — agree with deporting those entering the United States illegally.

This includes 69% of Democrats and 91% of Republicans. One pitch from her executive budget — requiring an officer in every New York City subway car during overnight hours — even has a higher approval rating among Republicans than Democrats, scoring 74% to 71%. If her proposals were to get implemented, 42% of respondents believe it would “improve the lives of everyday New Yorkers.

” This is a promising development for the governor, according to Greenberg. “Even with the free breakfast and lunch for all school kids, Democrats are bigger than Republicans — 86% versus 62%, but 62% of Republicans are still big numbers,” Greenberg said. On an electoral level, voters still aren’t on board with granting Hochul a second term in 2026, according to the poll.

Approximately 31% are willing to re-elect Hochul. That’s the lowest score SCRI has yet to report. Those seeking a different candidate account for 57% of respondents, remaining unchanged from an institute poll in December.

This includes 41% of Democrats. Hochul hasn’t had a positive favorability rating since January 2024. She entered office in late 2021.

“The good news for the governor is that she has time,” Greenberg said. “The bad news for the governor is that in three and a half years, she’s never connected with voters to have a majority say they view her favorably.” Hochul’s office didn’t respond to a request for comment.
