Dover Grammar School for Boys have completed a remarkable double of Kent Cup wins after both their under-13 and under-16 sides triumphed in games played at Deal Town FC’s ground. The under-16s were the first DGSB team to collect a trophy after they beat a strong Bromley-based Ravenswood School side 2-0, with their goals coming through Bobby Aston and James Fielding. Having been victorious in the under-15 competition last season, the under-16s are only the second side in the school’s history to win consecutive Kent Cups.

A week later, their younger under-13s counterparts, who had lost in the final last year, went one better with a 2-1 victory against Bonus Pastor from Lewisham. Theo Birdsall and Henry Stennett scored to complete a unique double. Both games were played in front of crowds of more than 200 at the Charles Sports Ground, with more than 100 Kent schools entering each competition.

The sides were led by Deal manager Steve King - a teacher at Dover Grammar. He said: “These were two fantastic victories against strong sides containing a number of Academy players. “The attitude and quality of the players in both games was first class and the whole school are proud of their achievements.

“We had great support in both games and that really helped the players. “DGSB is a brilliant sporting school and it’s great that these two victories have put us on the map again.”.
