Over the weekend, Nayanthara's open letter to Dhanush sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry, bringing to light a dispute that has sparked widespread debate and support. In her candid and emotional letter, Nayanthara shared her frustration over a legal battle with Dhanush, the actor and producer of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), in which she starred. Nayanthara revealed that Dhanush had filed a lawsuit demanding Rs 10 crore in damages after she used behind-the-scenes footage from the film in her upcoming documentary.
The footage, which was meant to offer a personal insight into the making of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Nayanthara’s journey, became the focal point of the dispute after Dhanush refused to give permission for its use. When the team decided to use a different behind-the-scenes clip that was freely available online, Dhanush’s legal action followed. In her letter, Nayanthara accused the actor of hypocrisy, pointing out the difficulties she faced in securing permissions and highlighting the broader issues of power dynamics in the industry.

Aishwarya Rajesh, who starred with Dhanush in Vada Chennai, also expressed her solidarity, publicly standing by Nayanthara’s side. It wasn’t just these two actresses who voiced support. A number of other leading ladies who have worked with Dhanush over the years, such as Aishwarya Lekshmi (Jagame Thandhiram), Nazriya Fahadh (Naiyaandi), Anupama Parameswaran (Kodi), Parvathy Thiruvothu (Maryan), Manjima Mohan (Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam), and Gouri G Kishan (Karnan), all joined in by liking Nayanthara’s post or sharing it on social media.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, in particular, went a step further by reposting the letter to her Instagram Stories, captioning it with heartfelt words of admiration for Nayanthara’s courage and calling her a “true inspiration.” This outpouring of support underscores the growing solidarity among women in the industry, with many seeing Nayanthara’s stand as part of a larger conversation about the inequalities faced by actresses in Tamil cinema. The controversy has highlighted the power imbalances and the struggles women face when working with powerful producers, shedding light on the challenges of securing creative freedom and respect.
