Showcasing the future: Army Day parade in Pune to feature advanced tech and robotic mules

Pune: The Indian Army conducted its first rehearsal for the Army Day parade on Monday at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre parade ground in the city. Scheduled to take place on Jan 15, the Army Day parade would be a first in Pune. Earlier organised in New Delhi, the past two years has seen the parade held in Bangalore and Lucknow.

The rehearsal comprised four tableaux and various contingents, including special forces and cavalry showcasing advanced technology and equipment like robotic mules , drone jammer systems, all-terrain vehicles, Pinaka rockets, various radars, and different assault bridges. The Army inducted 100 robotic mules under the fourth tranche of emergency procurements for operational purposes in the forward locations. These remotely operated mules look like walking soldiers in synchronisation while maintaining agility.



"These mules can climb stairs, steep slopes, and other hurdles and can function and operate in extreme weather conditions, ranging from -40°C to +55°C. Capable of carrying a payload of 15kg, it can become one of the attractions of the parade," said an Army officer. The parade will be supported by a flypast of the Army's helicopters, free falls of the special forces personnel, and other shows on the occasion.

"A two-hour parade will showcase the capability of the force by displaying modern technology and conventional power. It will be one of its kind military event which will mesmerise the gathering. Special pavilions have been allocated for school students on the parade ground.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will be the chief guest for the parade. He will present awards to brave soldiers and units on the occasion. He will also address the gathering.

Several dignitaries, including the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan of the Indian armed forces, will attend the function. Box: Mobile app for registration soon To facilitate public participation, the Southern Command of the Army plans to launch a dedicated mobile application where civilians can register to attend the parade. An Army officer from the Command told TOI, "We are currently conducting internal testing of the application.

It will soon be released, allowing people to register their names for the parade. The app will also provide details about the parade, including information on the marching contingents, technology, and equipment. Additionally, users will have the opportunity to share their comments and vote for the best marching contingent.
