Showcase Cinemas is celebrating National Popcorn Day this weekend with a special offer for film fanatics. A national study, conducted by the cinema chain, discovered that more than 2.7million kilograms of sweet or salty popcorn was enjoyed by film fans while watching a movie at its cinemas nationwide last year.
Extrapolated across the total number of cinemas in the UK, film fans tucked into approximately 146 million kilograms of the movie snack in 2024. As a result of the research by Showcase Cinemas, Peterborough was revealed as being the popcorn capital of the UK with one in four (24%) cinemagoers in the town buying popcorn when they visit the big screen. When is National Popcorn Day? On Sunday, January 19, National Popcorn Day will see Showcase Cinemas offer a small box of popcorn for £1. To claim this offer, customers will need to have a ticket for a film showing on Sunday when they buy a small popcorn at one of its cinemas. Showcase Cinemas is extending the £1 popcorn offer into the following day, meaning guests can treat themselves to a discounted snack on Blue Monday too.
