KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actor Charlie Nu'man Salleh and his six children's Aidilfitri turned tragic when the house they had rented for 13 years in Gombak Setia was gutted by fire three days ago. Charlie, 71, who raised three boys and three girls on his own after getting divorced five years ago, was forced to relocate to the Gombak Setia Welfare Association Hall (PKGS).Charlie said in a Berita Harian report yesterday that he noticed the fire spreading at the back of his house on the second day of Aidilfitri.

"The fire is believed to have started at a neighbour's house. I got water with a bucket and shouted. After that, many people came to help.

"I told the children to get out of the house before the fire brigade arrived. However, our belongings in the house could not be saved."The Fire and Rescue Department gave me permission to take important documents before the house was closed down off," he said at a donation ceremony in the hall attended by Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chairman Datuk Hans Isaac yesterday.

Hans said that Finas would get in touch with Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to help find a new home for Charlie."Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has contacted me and he is very concerned about Charlie's plight."© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
