Shops on Bolton's Knowsley Street had awnings to keep off the sun

Knowsley Street in Bolton looks to have been a hive of activity when this photo was taken in 1951. Knowsley Street, Bolton, 1951 (Picture: Newsquest) It’s interesting to see that so many of the shops had awnings to protect goods in the window from the sun - and also to advertise their products. No doubting the most prominent advertising sign - that of Golding’s close to the Victoria Hall.
