A new convenience store and postal service has opened, and shoppers say they're thrilled to see it up and running.

The new Londis has been promised for Gainsborough Avenue in Royal Wootton Bassett for some time, after a previous Londis store there was turned into Central Stores and then closed down in 2024. The new Londis, which features a new Post Office service inside, originally planned to open at the end of March but this was postponed for unknown reasons. But reassuring the public, Londis has now announced that it is open for business on Gainsborough Avenue as of Saturday, April 12.

"The wait is nearly over...

We’re opening this Saturday at 8am," a spokesperson for the shop announced. "Your brand new Londis store is almost ready to welcome you, packed with all your everyday essentials, snacks, treats & more! "COOK & Country Choice products aren’t in just yet, but they’ll be arriving soon." However, this new service, while relieving some stress on the High Street post office, will only offer be for drop off and pick up. Reacting to the news of the opening, resident Susan Elmes said: "They’ve been working hard seven days a week to get this ready. "Please let it be a success, locals have really missed it.

" Helen Chibamba added: "It looks amazing in there." Post Office and Payzone services will be available (Image: Dave Cox) One resident told the Gazette and Herald: "I can't wait for it to open, my partner and I are thrilled. It'll be so much easier and more convenient to head to the shops and also use the post service.

"I'm very excited that they're supplying COOK products too, it sounds like they'll have a good stock." Other features of the new Londis store also include an Evri parcel drop off point, Payzone pay point, National Lottery tickets, freshly baked goods, newspapers and magazines, and a Costa Coffee machine. The planning application states: "There is also an intention to expand the product range to include tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, subject to the approval of a premises license application.
