Shoppers crowd markets in city on eve of Eid fest

1 2 Prayagraj: Ahead of the Eid festival, markets in the Sangam city on Sunday witnessed a surge of last-minute shoppers as people were busy purchasing clothes, sweets, and gifts for their loved ones. Shopkeepers did brisk business, with many reporting a spike in sales compared to previous years. With the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on Monday, shopping hubs like Chowk, Kotwali, Civil Lines, Dhoomanganj and Katra witnessed heavy footfall.

From traditional attire to decorative items, shoppers are leaving no stone unturned to make their Eid celebrations grand. Mohammed Aftab, a garment shop owner at Chowk Market, said, "This year, the sales are much better. People, particularly women, are buying new clothes for the entire family, especially for kids.



Pathani suits and embroidered kurta, along with designer salwar kameez and hijab, are in high demand." Footwear and accessory shops are also doing brisk business. Shopkeepers claimed they have stocked the latest cloth designs, and customers are ready to shell out extra bucks.

Sweet shops also witnessed a rush for traditional sweets like seviyan (vermicelli pudding) and phirni. Kareli resident Tariq said, "Eid is incomplete without delicious food. We are making preparations to serve guests.
