This Christmas , a leading supermarket is offering shoppers free mince pies - and claiming yours couldn't be easier. Mince pies are a festive staple, whether you're hosting friends for a holiday drink or enjoying a film with family. Each year, supermarkets unveil a vast array of mince pies with various flavours and toppings - and one is giving you the opportunity to sample theirs for free.
A pack of four cranberry and orange mince pies, which normally retails for £4, will be given to shoppers at Waitrose in exchange for downloading an app. By simply downloading and registering for the My John Lewis app, Waitrose customers can secure their tangy mince pies – while stocks last. Shoppers can obtain a barcode via the app, which they scan at the checkout to have the price of the mince pies deducted from their bill.
Customers can only claim one pack of mince pies each, and the offer will run until December 17, while stocks last. While shoppers may be rushing to Waitrose to get hold of their free mince pies, the team at Express have tried quite a few supermarket mince pies to reveal which Christmassy treat came out on top. The Express taste test included mince pies from the likes of Morrisons , Sainsbury’s , Asda and Tesco, as well as Amazon.
To make the taste test more fair, the Express team tasted the cheapest variety the stores had to offer, which were all under £2. Winning top marks was Morrison's pack of six mince pies for just £1.45, which was favoured because of its taste, texture and pastry-to-mincemeat ratio.
Taste testers said they were "very sweet with a nice texture" and would be "perfect with a dollop of cream" to balance flavours. Alternative pairings can include clotted cream, ice cream, brandy cream, custard or hard, crumbly cheese. Meanwhile, some of the best Christmassy drinks to enjoy with mince pies include fortified wines, sherry, and mulled wine.
