Ludhiana: The road in Model Town Extension Market has been encroached upon by the shopkeepers. Despite periodic actions being taken by the Tehbazari wing to remove these encroachments, permanent structures have now appeared on the parking site. Assistant town planner (ATP) Mohan Singh has instructed his staff to out up warning notices on the spot to warn the shopkeepers. Besides, the municipal corporation commissioner has said he would act tough against any encroachments. ATP Mohan Singh said shop allotments in the Model Town Extension food market were made a few years ago.
Initially, shopkeepers encroached on the verandahs, and now they have gradually started encroaching on the parking space by constructing sheds. A complaint was received in this regard some time ago, and the area inspector had the sheds demolished using ditch machines. Apart from this, the Tehbazari wing has been removing temporary encroachments.
