Devyn Michaels, 46, could serve between 15 years to life in prison as part of the agreement after she was convicted for the second-degree murder of her on-again off-again boyfriend Johnathan Willette, 46.

Court records reveal that Michaels entered her plea on September 17 and as part of the agreement could be up for parole after serving just 15 years in prison - though as in all cases, sentencing is up to the judge’s discretion. Michaels, who also goes by the name of Tracee Tavarez, told the judge she ‘was a low risk to reoffend,’ while testifying on a previous arrest charge just days after Willette’s murder, 8News Now reports. Michaels was arrested in August of last year after Willette’s mother discovered his headless body in his bed, eight days after the incident occurred.



Michaels claims the father of their two daughters tried to force her to perform a sex act on him before she committed the brutal crime . After decapitating her then-boyfriend she reportedly took his head from Willette’s Henderson home to her place in Las Vegas where she disposed of it in a trash bin.

Police also found Willette’s wallet, identification and truck keys in her home across town. Willette’s head was never recovered as police believe trash service likely picked it up. Upon investigation she initially denied the killing and claimed that she left his home the night of his death.

She later admitted to striking him on the head with a wooden stick after refusing his advances, allegedly saying she only wanted to hospitalize him. She also claimed that Willette was abusive towards her and alleged that he would have his oldest child take showers in front of him, according to an arrest report. Her convoluted relationship with Willette was also a factor in the case as court records show the pair were planning to move in together even though she was married to Willette’s son, Deviere.

Police also found Willette’s wallet, identification and truck keys in her home across town Court records reveal that in the weeks surrounding the murder Michaels was also involved in a separate case involving the alleged abuse of one of her children. Michaels was also arrested in October of 2022 for child neglect after an employee at a childcare facility noticed bruising on her 8-year-old’s leg.

A hearing following the 2022 arrest resulted in a one-year probation sentence for Michaels as she insisted she was not an abusive person, citing her participation in counseling and therapy. ‘I have done counseling classes, therapy, drug tests, psych evaluations. I’ve done everything.

Everyone I have spoken to say I am not an abusive person and they don’t feel there is any risk for me to abuse her or would ever do this again,’ she said in court. Michaels’ sentencing for the murder of Willette is scheduled for October 31.
