EXCLUSIVE Shock claims against Cher as her troubled son's 'sick' wife fears Elijah Blue Allman is headed toward a disturbing meltdown By ISABELLE STANLEY and JAMES VITUSCKA FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 23:44 EDT, 14 April 2025 | Updated: 23:44 EDT, 14 April 2025 e-mail View comments When Cher 's son Elijah Blue Allman was photographed barefoot and slumped over in the lobby of the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles in September 2023, it seemed to some that he had tragically hit rock bottom. Concerned witnesses told the Daily Mail at the time that hotel staff found Allman, who has been open about his struggles with drug addiction, lying face down on the pavement outside the hotel.
He was so out of it that he 'looked like he was dead,' said one onlooker. Two days later, he was reportedly rushed to a rehab facility in Pasadena, California . By August 2024, Allman, 48 – son of legendary musician Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band – was back at the Chateau, seen drinking and wearing bizarre vestment-style robes.
And now, those close to him are terrified he may be heading down the same dark road once again, as his wife, Marieangela King, 37, has reportedly filed for divorce. Sources tell the Daily Mail that King believes Allman has broken his sobriety – and that she shockingly blames Cher, 78, for much of the trouble. 'Angela has given Elijah so many chances, but she is not going to be taken for granted ever again,' they said.
'She trusted him that he was going to stay sober and has reason to believe that he is not.' King filed for divorce from Allman on April 7 citing 'irreconcilable differences' and demanding $6,000 a month in spousal support and 'exclusive use of [their] 2017 Toyota Prius', according to court documents seen by the Daily Mail. The pair have long had a tumultuous relationship.
Allman even filed for divorce once before, in 2021, only to eventually reconcile with King and call the divorce off in 2024. But now, those close to her say King is 'done' for good – and she's pointing fingers. 'Frankly, Cher is a large part of [King's] decision to walk away from this toxicity,' the source said.
'She blames Cher for all of his issues.' 'While she is alive her mother-in-law will continue to cause nothing but problems and Marieangela is sick of her, sick of him and sick of all of it,' they added. Representatives for Cher and Allman have not replied to the Daily Mail's requests for comment on this story.
This is just the latest development in a years-long bitter feud between King and Cher that seemed to have started when King and Allman got engaged in December 2013. At the time, Cher allegedly refused to congratulate the couple. Speaking with the Daily Mail in February 2014 about the tension between his mother and King, Allman said: 'You've got two strong women, two big bulls in the pen.
I think there's a respect and I think they butt heads a little bit.' Since then, the situation appears to have only worsened. In November 2022, King claimed in court filings - related to her then-pending divorce from Allman - that Cher hired four men to 'remove' Elijah from a New York City hotel room they had been staying in while they tried to repair their relationship.
King alleged in the documents that one of the men told her they were working for Cher and that they took Allman to an 'undisclosed' treatment center for his addiction issues. In the declaration, filed four days after the alleged incident, King added: 'I am currently unaware of my husband's wellbeing or whereabouts.' Cher denied hiring men to grab her son at the time, telling PEOPLE, 'That rumor is not true.' Indeed, no criminal charges were filed. But then, in December 2023, Cher filed for a temporary conservatorship over her son citing his past substance abuse and alleged declining mental health.
Allman has opened up about his issues with drugs and alcohol before. In 2014 he shockingly admitted to Entertainment Tonight that he 'started with drugs (weed and ecstasy) around the same time that we all did, around 11' before graduating to heroin and opiate painkillers. He was sent to boarding school at age seven.
Since then he and Cher have had periods of estrangement. 'She's had her moments and I know she's tried,' he told the Daily Mail in 2014, but he added that her extreme level of fame made parenting 'a very complex situation.' 'I don't think it's anything she doesn't know or hasn't acknowledged.
I know it's a real regret, a real thing that for sure haunts her,' he said. 'I definitely know that the intent has been genuine.' 'It'll be mended because it has to be, it will just take time,' he added.
In her 2014 court filings Cher claimed was unable to manage the $120,000 a year he gets from a trust fund set up for him by his father, who died in 2017, and that she feared her son would spend his $30,000 quarterly payouts on drugs, putting his life in jeopardy. Cher also slammed King in her court filings, writing: 'Their tumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.' She went on to claim King has not been 'supportive of Elijah's recovery and.
.. actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs.
' Allman and King fought Cher's request for conservatorship. 'I am doing well and do not need the help my mother is offering,' Allman wrote in response in a court filing seen by the Daily Mail at the time. In December 2023, Cher filed for a temporary conservatorship over her son citing his past substance abuse and alleged declining mental health.
(Pictured: Cher with eldest son (now Chaz Bono) and Elijah in 1981) 'My mother and I have had a strained relationship for years,' he added. 'My mother is 77 years old. I have seen her suffer with depression in the past and I do not believe that she is capable of making appropriate decisions for my estate.
' King also filed a response, and turned on Cher specifically, writing: 'I believe that people in Elijah's family are emotional triggers for him. I have witnessed and experienced abusive behavior coming mostly from Elijah's mother.' 'It is vital that Eljiah be surrounded by sober people who are part of the AA community — which most of his family members are not,' she added.
The brutal back and forth only came to an end in September 2024, when Cher and Allman reached a private agreement and Cher voluntarily dismissed her petition for conservatorship. But now it seems all their old issues are coming to the surface once again.
