April 16, 1929—February 22, 2025 Our cherished mother sadly passed on February 22, 2025, at the age of 95, in her own home, while being cared for by her two daughters. She was born at home on April 16, 1929, the third child of Albert D. Supp and Louise Cazier Supp in Wells, Nev.

Mom had countless fond memories of her childhood growing up in Wells. She spent many summer days riding her bike, rollerskating, exploring the sagebrush hills, and in winter ice skating, and sledding on homemade sleds or old car hoods. As a teenager, one of mom’s favorite activities was dancing with her sister Ann to the latest songs of the 40’s playing on the radio.

During WWII, the two girls took the chaperoned bus trips to Wendover for military dances, where they learned some of the latest dances from visiting east coast soldiers. She attended Wells High School graduating in 1947. This is where she met her husband, of 60 years, Robert Merlin Higley.

Following high school, she attended a fashion design school in Los Angeles, Calif. This was quite the experience for a small town girl. It also contributed to her amazing creativity over her lifetime.

Shirley and Bob were married in Wells in 1948. They were blessed with three children Delynn, Tom, and Robyn. By 1955, they moved to Elko as new owners of the Richfield Station on the corner of Idaho and Fourth Street, now a parking lot.

Shirley worked for Vogue Laundry as a seamstress, later moving on to JC Penney’s fabric department, and eventually to the Tally Ho men’s clothing store at 475 Railroad Street. In 1969 Shirley and Bob purchased the Tally Ho and renamed the store Bob’s Togs. Eventually they expanded with a move to 453 Idaho Street.

And In 1989, they sold the business to their daughter Delynn and her husband Duane Jones, who changed the store’s name to Cedar Creek Clothing Co. Many Elkoans were loyal employees and customers of this generational family-owned store. Shirley provided a wonderful childhood for her children, nieces, nephews, as well as their friends.

We had memorable camping trips where she taught us to love and respect the outdoors. Seeing a deer in the wild always brought a smile to her face. She and Robyn continued to camp in Lamoille well into mom’s 80’s.

Mom gave boundless love and kindness to her family and friends. She was most comfortable in her kitchen and craft room, creating special birthday and holiday magic for all of us. One of our fondest memories is of Mom and Dad dancing in their living room to a favorite big band tune.

Mom had a wonderful sense of humor, a spunky personality, endless energy, and a kindness with no limits. Shirley is loved and missed by her daughters, Robyn Gibson, Delynn Jones; son-in-law, Duane Jones; and daughter-in-law, Tina Higley. Her grandchildren, Russell (Mary) Jones, Tiffany Jones, Alex Higley, Scott (Amanda) Higley; and her older brother, Albert “Bud” Keith Supp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Higley (2008); sister, Ann White (2017); and son, Tom Higley (2019). Our deepest thanks to family, friends, and hospice for their help and support during this difficult time. Per Mom’s request, there will be no services.

With grieving and heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beautiful Mom and ask you to remember a special moment you had with her. In her memory please give kindness, and make a gift to a charity that you are passionate about. Sign up to get the most recent local obituaries delivered to your inbox.
