On October 5, Shinhan Card announced that it shared its ESG management practices and data-driven carbon neutrality strategies, including the 'Shinhan Green Index,' at the World Bank's 'Korea Green Innovation Days (KGID) Jeju' conference held in Jeju. The KGID conference, established through a collaboration between the World Bank and the Korean government in 2012, is a key annual event of the Korea Green Growth Trust Fund (KGGTF). It serves as a platform for discussing global cooperation strategies for climate change and sustainable development.
Now in its 13th year, the conference runs until October 6 in Jeju, bringing together approximately 450 public and private sector experts from 22 countries. At the event, Shinhan Card presented its ESG management strategies alongside Shinhan Financial Group's 'Zero Carbon Drive' vision, introducing the 'Shinhan Green Index,' developed for the first time in the domestic financial industry. The 'Shinhan Green Index' calculates carbon emissions based on card usage, allowing consumers to view their monthly carbon emissions, providing tips for practicing carbon neutrality in everyday life, and enabling donation of card points to carbon neutrality projects.
Through this data-driven service, Shinhan Card encourages consumers to actively participate in eco-friendly consumption. Shinhan Card also showcased several use cases, such as 'Planning an Eco-Friendly Trip to Jeju by the MZ Generation,' which won a data competition leveraging the 'Shinhan Green Index.' These cases promote sustainable practices reflected in the eco-friendly travel patterns of the MZ generation.
"We plan to support the spread of carbon-neutral management in major developing countries, leveraging Shinhan Card's big data analysis capabilities and the World Bank’s expertise in sustainable management," said an official from Shinhan Card. "We will continue to advance Shinhan Financial Group's ESG strategy and fulfill our responsibilities as a corporate citizen.".
