Sheriff's office increasing patrol presence as Halloween nears

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office will have an increased presence throughout local neighborhoods this Halloween to ensure the safety of community members.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office will have an increased presence throughout local neighborhoods this Halloween to ensure the safety of community members. “Obviously we are always proactive with our traffic enforcement, but we're stepping up enforcement in the coming days because we typically have several issues toward the end of October,” said Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett. “We want to protect everybody and make sure that we don't have any unfortunate incidents.

” For those planning to enjoy Halloween festivities, officers encourage individuals to also plan for a safe, sober ride home to avoid getting pulled over. DUIs are not limited to alcohol-related offenses, and drivers are being reminded that operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or any other drugs or substances is illegal. The Buchanan County sheriff offered the following tips to stay safe: For drivers: Exercise caution, especially in residential areas, and drive slowly For trick-or-treaters: Stick to well-lit areas and travel in groups For parents: Accompany young children and equip children with reflective gear and flashlights “Parents, please make sure that you are paying attention to your children,” Puett added.



“Motorists can’t do it alone and it’s going to take a joint effort from everyone to pay attention to your surroundings.” The sheriff’s office will be completing sex offender registry checks on Halloween night to ensure all rules are being followed..
