Channel 5 drama, The Castaways starring Sheridan Smith and Céline Buckens begins airing tonight, January 26. The five-part series originally aired on streaming service Parmount+ in 2023 but is now being shown on Channel 5. Adapted from the novel by Lucy Clarke, The Castaways follows sisters Erin and Lori who are getting ready for a holiday of a lifetime in Fiji.
However, things turn south when an argument between the sisters ruins the mood and Erin never boards the plane. Older sister Lori does board the plane but never makes it to the resort after the plane disappears in the ocean. Years later, a hopeful Erin believes that there are still some survivors from the flight and returns to Fiji to search for clues about her sister's whereabouts.
The Castaways jumps between different times with the aftermath of the disappearing plane seeing Lori marooned with a group of passengers, many of whom cannot be trusted. Actress Sheridan Smith has appeared in many popular TV shows including Gavin and Stacey, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Cleaning Up, The Teacher, The Royle Family and more. Céline Buckens is best known for appearing in Showtrial, Free Rein, The Ex-Wife, War Horse, Warrior and The Rain Collector.
