Sheldon Creed adds to his own unfortunate NASCAR record at Bristol

No NASCAR driver has ever epitomized heartbreak quite like Sheldon Creed.

No NASCAR driver has ever epitomized heartbreak quite like Sheldon Creed. On Friday, the 26-year-old broke his own record for the most second-place finishes in Xfinity Series history without a win, notching his 13th runner-up result in 96 career starts. I know he's still never won a race, but I'm convinced Sheldon Creed is going to win the Xfinity Series championship this season.

Creed's second-place finish on Friday is his sixth of the 2024 season and his third in the last six races. To add insult to injury, Creed beat pole-sitter Chandler Smith for second in a photo finish — the exact way he lost to Justin Allgaier at Daytona in 2023. Creed led 28 laps on Friday before being passed by eventual race winner Cole Custer for the top spot on lap 209.

Custer led the final 92 laps of Friday's race en route to his second win of 2024. While Creed's impressive consistency hasn't translated into a win yet, his 2024 season has still been extremely impressive. He's finished top-five in 13 of the series' 26 races, and top-10 in 17 races.

Creed locked up an Xfinity Series playoff berth with a second-place finish at Watkins Glen on Sept. 14, and he will complete alongside 11 other drivers for the 2024 Xfinity Series championship. Unfortunately, a lack of playoff points has Creed seeded ninth for the opening race of the playoffs at Kansas, three points below the cut line.

Creed will look to earn his first Xfinity Series victory at Kansas on Sept. 28..
