Championship leaders Sheffield United are reportedly readying a bid north of £10m for Norwich City winger Borja Sainz.

Sheffield United want to sign Norwich City's top goalscorer Borja Sainz this summer, according to reports. The Spaniard, who leads the goal-scoring charts in the Championship this season, enters the final 12 months of his Canaries contract in the summer and is expected to generate significant interest. Alan Nixon is reporting that Championship leaders Sheffield United are ready to commit a fee of over £10m to sign the winger this summer, whether they are promoted to the Premier League or not.

Chris Wilder is backed by a new American ownership group at Bramall Lane who are prepared to support his plans, with the report adding that Sainz's goal-scoring from deeper areas would be seen as an 'asset' for the Blades in the top-flight. Sainz has been linked with a clutch of clubs throughout the season after his impressive goal-scoring form, including Girona , Galatasaray , Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, while Italian giants Napoli made an official inquiry in January. The Spaniard has scored 17 goals in the second tier this season - two more than the next highest in Joel Piroe and four ahead of team mate Josh Sargent.

City sporting director Ben Knapper confirmed last month that conversations with Sainz and key midfielder Marcelino Nunez were ongoing, but neither are yet to commit their future to City as they approach a crunch summer. "There are conversations ongoing in both cases," Knapper told the Pink Un at the club's Colney training base. "There's been good dialogue with the camps of both of those players, and that will continue.

"Ultimately, these things take time, and you need to try to find alignment between all parties. There's no conclusion either way on any of those scenarios. Borja Sainz has scored 17 goals in the Championship this season.

"They are both live issues, but at the same time, we're relaxed about it. Things will play out in the way they do, and we'll react.

I'm sure we will get a good outcome for the club, whatever the situation.".
