For all you would-be turkey hunters out there, it's time to sharpen your skills and maybe even learn a few new tricks for free. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is serving up a no-cost opportunity for the first 35 quick-on-the-draw sign-ups eager to perfect their turkey hunting craft. The seminar, taking place at the Pueblo Hunter Education Building on April 4, boasts a curriculum covering the A to Z of turkey stalking.
Eager learners will be taught by CPW officers who, armed with years of experience, are sure to provide useful insights into the art of turkey hunting. Wildlife Officers Gretchen Holschuh and Bill Velarde, alongside retired biologist Mark Elkins, will be leading the session. Targeting hunters looking to prepare for the spring season, they're set to delve into gear essentials, decoy strategies, and not forgetting to parse the legal mumbo jumbo one needs to navigate.
According to CPW, the hands-on learning experience will include practice on the four critical turkey calls. The mastery of these calls, achieved through using slate calls provided by the CPW, could be the difference between a successful hunt and just a nice walk in the woods. And let's not overlook the added perk of potential prizes.
Participants stand the chance to win "some great door prizes and CPW giveaway swag during the course," as detailed by CPW. Those attending will leave, hopefully, with additional motivation to apply their newfound knowledge in the great outdoors..
