An official statement from the BCCI is yet to be released as the decision is yet to be finalised. Sharmila Tagore has expressed her dissatisfaction over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s decision to do away with the Pataudi trophy. The trophy is a celebration of Sharmila Tagore’s late husband and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan’s legacy.

Known for his charisma and contributions to Indian cricket, Pataudi was a pivotal figure in the sport’s growth in India during the 1960s and 1970s. The Test series started in 2007 between India and England to mark the first India vs England Test in 1932. Although the decision has not been finalised yet, Sharmila Tagore has voiced her opinion against it.

“I haven’t heard from them, but the ECB has sent a letter to Saif (Ali Khan) that they are retiring the trophy. If the BCCI wants to or does not want to remember Tiger’s (Mansoor Ali Khan) legacy, it is for them to decide," Sharmila Tagore told the Hindustan Times. Though the move has drawn some criticism, with fans and cricket experts expressing disappointment over the loss of a historic symbol, it also reflects a shift towards redefining cricketing traditions in India.

Some argue that this change could be a sign of progress, opening the door for the introduction of new trophies or awards that align with the changing dynamics of international cricket. Others believe that Mansoor Ali Khan’s legacy deserves to be honoured by the trophy. For many, the Pataudi trophy will remain a cherished piece of cricketing history.

It is important to note that an official statement from the BCCI is yet to be released as the decision is yet to be finalised. This blow to the Pataudi family comes a few months after Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra home while trying to protect his family during an attempted robbery. Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds and had to undergo intense surgery.

Soon after, Rs 15,000 crore worth of the Pataudi’s historical property was declared as ‘enemy property’..
