Seventeen Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers and staff were recognized Tuesday for special achievements in 2024. “These men and women have something in common,” said Sgt. Colin Coultrip, the Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer.
“They value their careers, and they do their best to serve their community with dedication, discipline and sacrifice.” The award winners included Deputy Rolando Ortiz, presented with the Silver Star Award for knowingly putting his own life in harm’s way in an attempt to save another man’s life in an Aug. 25, house fire.
It is in recognition of service for valor, courage, intelligence, and bravery over and beyond what is expected of a Sheriff’s Office employee. Five deputies received the Lifesaving Award — including one who was awarded two of them. It is the fifth highest award presented to Sheriff’s Office employees who successfully administer a lifesaving technique.
The recipients were: Nicholas Brooks and Cesar Lopez, for their actions in using CPR, an automated external defibrillator and Narcan to help save a person’s life on May 14. Nicholas Brooks and Jacob Rasch, for their use of CPR, an automated external defibrillator and a ResQCPR device to help save a person’s life during a medical emergency on May 18. Lacey Ebler, for the direct actions she took to save a person’s life with the use of CPR and an automated external defibrillator during a medical emergency on Aug.
17. Korin Bourdo, for helping save a person’s life on April 28, through the use of CPR and an automated external defibrillator. The Certificate of Merit, the office’s sixth highest award, was presented to Sgt.
Alexander Sanchez, Detective Timothy Hackbarth and Administrative Assistant Breanna Oseguera, for their work on a new training program that is now used by the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Award — the office’s ninth highest award, presented to members of the department or the public who distinguish themselves in performing an extraordinary act of unselfish public service — was presented to local residents Steven and Amber Zoski, who were unable to attend the ceremony. Coultrip said the Zoskes called the Sheriff’s Office on Feb.
13, to request a welfare check on an elderly neighbor whom they had not seen for several days. Due to the call, deputies located the neighbor, who had fallen several days earlier and could not move or call for help. Corrections Professionals of the Year Awards honored two for contributions to the Sheriff’s Office’s Detentions Division.
The honorees were Direct Supervision Officer Greg Hinzpeter and Correctional Officer LaMont McKissik. In addition to the awards, four promotions were recognized during the ceremony. These include: Sgt.
Joseph Zarletti to the rank of lieutenant. Deputy Terry Tifft and Detective Jose Gonzalez III to the rank of sergeant. Deputy David Kless to the rank of detective.
