Seven-run fourth helps Terrell Academy knock off Westwood

CAMILLA – The Terrell Academy Eagles broke open a close game with a seven-run fourth inning and went on to defeat the Westwood Wildcats 16-5 Tuesday afternoon in Camilla.“Our offense finally put some quality at-bats together, and we were able to get some timely hits,” said Terrell Academy Head Coach Ashley Walker. “We did a lot of damage with two outs, and that’s what sparked us.

We were able to battle at the plate and hit the ball hard. We pounded out 12 hits, with more than half of them coming with two outs in the inning.”Westwood jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring twice in the first and adding another in the second on an RBI single from catcher Sam Summerlin.



The Eagles answered in the third inning when Jack Hampson led off with a double to left and later scored on an error. Harrison Dozier followed by scoring on a groundout by Brooks Strickland, cutting the deficit to 3-2.Terrell Academy took control in the fourth inning.

Thirteen Eagles came to the plate, and seven of them scored. Jace Berry, Hunter Green, John Mark Irvin, Brooks Strickland, and Tucker Leanza all delivered singles during the inning. The Eagles also took advantage of four walks, a hit batsman, and an error to do their damage.

In total, Terrell Academy finished with 12 hits, seven walks, and seven hit batters. Hampson smacked two doubles, while Strickland led the team with three hits. Berry drove in three runs to pace the offense.

Summerlin collected two hits for the Wildcats, including a double. Kayden Gunn also doubled for Westwood.Sophomore right-hander Brody Cowart earned the win for the Eagles.

He pitched four innings, allowing three hits and three runs, while walking four and striking out seven. Landon Rogers came on in relief to close out the game.“Defensively, we made some plays when they counted,” Walker said.

“However, we walked a few too many of their hitters for my liking. We need to pitch to contact and not give up free bases.“All in all, it was a good win,” he added.

“I’m proud of my guys because it was truly a team effort today.”Max Joiner took the loss for the Wildcats. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on four hits.

He walked two and struck out one. Four other pitchers followed him on the mound for Westwood.The EAgles will host Southwest Georgia Thursday at 4 p.

m. while Westwood will play at Crisp Academy Thursday at 4 p.m.
