Seplat Energy, in partnership with its Joint Venture partner, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has launched the 2025 edition of its flagship healthcare programme, ‘Eye Can See’, in Owerri, Imo State.The launch event, which took place at Full Moon Hotel in Owerri, offered free eye care services to thousands of residents, particularly those from underserved and vulnerable communities. Services included cataract surgeries and the distribution of reading glasses.

This initiative reflects Seplat Energy’s ongoing commitment to sustainable social investments in its host communities, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages.Ibi-Ada Itotoi, Managing Director of Seplat East Onshore Limited, who was represented by Emmanuel Otokhine, underscored that the ‘Eye Can See’ programme exemplifies Seplat’s dedication to inclusive healthcare and corporate social responsibility.“At Seplat Energy, we believe that true success is not only measured by financial returns but also by the lasting positive impacts we create in our communities,” Itotoi said.



Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy, reflected on the programme’s success since its inception in 2012, noting that over 22,000 patients have received eye care, more than 700 eye surgeries have been performed, and over 12,000 prescription glasses have been distributed.Representatives from NNPCL, including Mrs. Wilson Halimat of NUIMS, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability, while officials from Imo State acknowledged the programme’s significant contribution to community health.

Dr. Austin Okeji, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, expressed the state’s eagerness to collaborate with organisations focused on public health.Beneficiaries such as Mrs.

Veronica Okereke and Mr. Charles Njoku shared their gratitude, praising Seplat and NNPCL for restoring their sight and improving their quality of life.In addition to providing medical services, the programme also educates beneficiaries on preventive eye care, promoting healthier lifestyle choices.
