HELENA, Mont. – Former Senate President Jason Ellsworth faced an ethics investigation, but state senators did not pass a vote to expel or censure him. In a 27 to 23 vote on the Senate floor, the motion to expel Ellsworth failed to achieve the required two-thirds majority needed for approval.

A supplementary motion to censure the senator also failed. The vote concluded the Senate ethics investigation, which began at the start of the session in January. The Senate Ethics Committee conducted a fact-finding investigation into potential mismanagement involving Ellsworth's proposed $170,000 contract with Agile Analytics during his tenure as Senate President.
